KQ4INX / Virginia / Grid FM17

Jackson, KQ4INX
See you on air.

Amateur radio, FT8, and a growing collection of Motorola gear. Welcome to Radios With Jackson.

A storm started it all.

When a tornado came through the Richmond area in early 2022, I became curious about ham radio. My grandfather, who is also a ham, helped me get started and lent me a book to study for my license.

My first Motorola was an XTS3000 in late 2022. I passed my amateur radio exam in May 2023, then got to operate at Ships on the Air and Field Day with W4NNK. That Christmas, an ICOM IC-7300 opened up a new part of the hobby for me.

Find me as KQ4INX.

I enjoy operating FT8 on 10 meters. My home grid is FM17 in Virginia. If you see me on FT8 from a different grid, I may be using a station through Remote Ham Radio.

My 40-foot self-supporting tower is used for local simplex, repeaters, and testing. The setup includes a Diamond X30A for 2m/70cm, a 450–470 MHz antenna for GMRS, and an Ambient Weather WS-2902 weather station.

Made a contact? Let’s confirm it.

I upload contacts to LoTW and QRZ, and use eQSL occasionally. QSL cards are always appreciated!

Thanks to AB4SF, N4HB, KN4BQE, and the Rappahannock Amateur Radio Association (W4NNK) for helping me along the way.
